    Officials are warning people to remain vigilant over scam emails purporting to be from supermarket, Asda.

    Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime, has received 1,754 reports in two weeks relating to fake emails purporting to be from Asda.

    The emails state that the recipient has won a free prize which can be claimed by completing a survey.

    The latest fraud threatening the UK could cost businesses at least £4.2billion if appropriate steps are not taken, new research from LexisNexis Risk Solutions shows.

    A new study looked at over 72million consumer profiles and found 2.8million showing several signs of 'Frankenstein cloning', where fraudsters stitch real and made-up personal details together to create a 'new' synthetic identity to spoof credit checks and commit high-value fraud against banks and credit providers.

    A fifth (20 per cent) of advisers do not have protective measures against fraud and scams in place, research from Opinium has revealed.

    The research, which surveyed 200 financial advisers earlier this year, suggested this lack of measures could leave advisers at risk of an incident or an attack.

    Seven people have been arrested by fraud investigators as part of a criminal investigation into collapsed law firm Axiom Ince and around £66 million of missing client money.

    The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) said over 80 of its investigators, accompanied by Metropolitan Police officers, conducted nine raids across the South East early on Tuesday morning to bring people in for questioning and search for possible evidence.

    Even the best of us can fall victim to a scam, as the Pensions Age team saw just this week, after a colleague wrote a post on social media about some concert tickets she was looking to sell.

    Excited by the opportunity, we all missed (or perhaps purposefully ignored) the obvious spelling errors, the fact that the post sounded, quite honestly, nothing like this person, and the fact that she had never mentioned this in person – we simply wanted it to be true.

    More than half a billion pounds has been lost to fraud so far this year, as the number of romance and purchase scams spiral.

    The latest fraud data sent to the Government today by industry body UK Finance reveals a growing fraud epidemic.

    The number of reported cases of romance scams has soared, rising 29 pc in the first half of the year, compared with the same period in 2022.
