    QR codes that re-emerged into our lives during the COVID-19 pandemic have given rise to a new wave of advanced phishing attacks targeting thousands of organizations worldwide. These evasive threats also known as quishing (QR phishing), lure end users into scanning a QR code sent to them via email using their mobile device camera, redirecting them to malicious websites aiming to steal their login credentials, harvest financial information, or infect their devices with malware.

    A man has been charged in connection with reports of romance fraud involving three women.

    Cieran Griffin was arrested in Nuneaton on Friday 29 September and taken to Cheshire for questioning.

    The 37-year-old from Coventry, has since been charged with three counts of fraud by false representation.

    The charges relate to allegations of romance fraud involving the women from Cheshire, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire.

    "Fraud" is an umbrella term describing when a person "lies to you or 'scams' you to gain an advantage". It is often linked to trying to extort money, or to learn private information about you. There are countless ways that scammers try and take advantage of their victims, some of which include via email, texts, phone calls or in person.

    In a rapidly developing world where technology is becoming more advanced by the day, concerns are growing for online safety.

    People are more worried about the effects of online fraud than other crimes, such as knife crime, burglary and sexual offences, according to a new survey.

    The poll – for criminal justice experts at Crest Advisory – found that young people were the group most likely to be affected by online fraud, even though half of those questioned believed the elderly were most at risk.

    The Public Sector Fraud Authority has claimed to have surpassed its target for saving money for taxpayers over its first year in operation.

    It has reported savings of £311 million compared with a target of £180 million when it was launched in August of last year, attributing the success to the use of AI and data analytics, the comparison of datasets from more than 1,000 public bodies, and the use of counter fraud flags.
